Common questions

Is this really free?

Yes. IPTA is a nonprofit and all tutoring services are provided at no cost to K–12 students in Illinois. No credit card, no sign-up fee, no catch.

How do the sessions work?

Sessions are held online via Google Meet or Zoom. Your matched tutor will send a link before the first session. You can also use a shared digital whiteboard for math and science.

What if the match isn't a good fit?

Just let us know. We will rematch you with a different tutor at no cost, no questions asked.

My child is in elementary school — is that okay?

Yes. We serve students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. For students under 13, we ask that a parent or guardian is present or nearby during sessions.

A note on safety

All IPTA tutors are background-checked and trained in online safety guidelines. Sessions for students under 13 require a parent or guardian to be present in the household during the call. Sessions are never recorded without explicit consent.
